As part of the COST Action, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ruveyde AYDIN from Ondokuz Mayıs University in Samsum, Türkiye completed a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at the ÖIF from 1 to 5 July 2024 and worked with Dr. Eva-Maria Schmidt on an article on the professional re-entry of Turkish mothers after their 16-week maternity leave (analık izni), see also Country Report Türkiye.

The 21st Annual Seminar of the International Network on Leave Policies & Research (ILNPR) took place from 17 to 18 June as a hybrid event in Montréal (Québec, Canada) at the Université Téluq. In the sessions, various international comparisons of parental leave and pension schemes were presented and methodological and conceptual issues were discussed. Eva-Maria Schmidt from the ÖIF took part.

On 21 June 2024, a working group meeting "Terminology" took place at the ÖIF in Vienna as part of the Cost Action "Parental Leave Social Sustainability". Sonja Dörfler-Bolt presented a draft on the terminology of Paid Parental Leave in international organisations.

Labour Law, Work Organisation and Birth Rate
Businesspeople and administrative officials from the South Korean province of Gyeonggi-do visited the University of Vienna on 26 April 2024. Wolfgang Mazal gave a lecture on Austrian labour and social law with a focus on labour organisation issues. In South Korea, the maximum average working time over several months is 51 hours per week and holiday entitlement is two weeks per year. This probably also contributes to the fact that South Korea has the lowest fertility rate in the world (0.72 children per woman aged 15 to 49).

Under the title "Shared parental leave and family care, in good times and in challenging times?", the experts Sonja Dörfler-Bolt (ÖIF), Gerlinde Mauerer (Institute of Sociology), Nadav Perez-Vaisvidovsky (Ashkelon Academic College), Barbara Schrammel (Frauen* beraten Frauen*) and Olena Strelnyk (TU Munich) presented and discussed opportunities and challenges in shared parental leave as well as family and gender policy issues in Vienna.

On 16 April 2020, the Austrian Institute of Family Research welcomed a delegation from the Committee for Families, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth of the German Bundestag to provide an insight into family research in Austria and to discuss current topics.
